Day in the country

Firts day beating on an estate in west sussex. Fab day sunshine all day although a little chilly in the shade. Which leads me onto the subject of whether the shooting season should be started a month later and finsihed end of February instead of January!?? as the last few seasons the weather has been to warm for shooting,n we need frost and even snow, yes people say we are mad being out inthe cold etc, but hey, we are all dressed up in warm waterproof clothing and having fun so why not?? and its far better then being stuck indoors, with all the windows and doors firmly shut with the heating on full blast, Why are people soo keen in getting out in the sun and when winter comes hide away?? it is a fantastic season so lets embrace it.

A lot of people ask why the need for shooting and that we can get enough meat from the supermarkets and isn't it wrong just to breed birds then kill them????

These people live in the country too!! What they do not realise that there would be no countryside or wildlife as they currently see it due to the hard work that many landowners and gamekeepers put in to keeping the countryside looking as it does and keeping vermin levels down. We had a new visitor to the shoot this week and he found it all a fantastic experience and was interested to learn what it was all about and the difference between thgame birds, ie pheasant, partridge and the king of birds grouse and how they are reared and released and looked after.
